We are all created with individual differences. We were also created following a natural order set up from the beginning. Therefore, we all have unique qualities that set us apart and we all have similar qualities that bring us together. In counseling I seek to help identify that which is unique about you and work to celebrate those differences. When we see ourselves more clearly, we can see the uniqueness of others and celebrate them as well. Our sameness draws us together. We need relationships. In our culture, independence is celebrated. By living out of independence, we lose our core need to connect with others. When we live in the tension of our uniqueness and our sameness, we flourish. As we value both our need to be different and together, we begin to see ourselves better and do life from a place of internal security.
